A
Genealogy of the Oneida Community
19th Century Perfectionist Commune |
|
|
|
The
Oneida Community was founded in 1848 by John Humphrey Noyes as
a utopian religious society. Initially, the commune included
the Noyes family and close friends in the Putney, Vermont, area.
The community eventually settled in Oneida, New York, where it
grew and prospered until they disbanded in 1879. The home of
the Oneida Community. the Mansion House, still stands today,
as a testament to their beliefs and determination. |
